Objective
SWBAT
practice writing for a purpose. They will see the way their writing is interpreted by others and reflect on the processes of writing, reading, and interpreting.
Description of lesson
1. Before this lesson, students will read a book independently, in literature circles, or as a whole class. Ask students to bring copies of the book that will be the focus of their slideshows to class for reference.
2. Provide the students with the book report template both in print form and on their computer.(PowerPoint gives an option when printing to print out slides. This is what I did, putting 4 slides on a page.) Demonstrate using the COW and model adding information to the template. Provide time for students to storyboard their reports on the template that was printed out.
3. Partner the students and provide time for them to help each other edit the storyboards.
4. Use the COW to model opening up the Pics 4 Leaning web site. Demonstrate how to copy images and add them to the report template. Students may also scan images or draw their own to add to the template. Emphasize that the information needs to be included on the template before students are allowed to add their own creative touch.
Assessment Strategies
The power points the students create will be used to assess their comprehension of the book they chose to read.
